CLothing drive: A success!
|
By: Staff Writer Emily
A lot of you are probably aware that recently, The Grizzle held a clothes drive. All sizes of just about any article of clothing was accepted, and WMS really delivered! The clothes went to several organizations like, Leggett Elementary, Salvation Army, Prince of Peace, and Caring for Kids. We are pleased to announce that just under 660 articles of clothes were collected. Way to show your school spirit, WMS! We even made the clothing drive into a competition between homerooms. In the end, Mrs. Schrubb’s class brought home the gold. The idea came from the Grizzle’s very own, Mya. This isn’t the first time she has pulled something like this off, either! She once did a shoe drive and collected over 300 pairs of shoes. That’s a lot of shoes! And 658 articles of clothing are going to make a lot of people very happy. Thank you to anyone who donated. You guys made the clothes drive a success! I also was able to sit down with Mya and ask her just a few questions about the clothing drive:

Welcome Back 8th Graders

By: Staff Writer Emily
If you’re in 7th grade, you probably noticed that, last week, the halls weren’t nearly as crowded, and the cafeteria wasn’t nearly as overflowing with students as it it normally is. In fact, you probably saw hardly any 8th graders at all! Last week the class of 2022 left for Washington D.C. This is the trip that the whole 8th grade eagerly awaits during the school year. The 8th grade got to see a lot in the 3 days they were gone, and they were no doubt very tired by the time they got back. But, if you talk to any one of them, I’m sure they will tell you they had a great time!
They left on March 14th. On the same day, they paid a visit to Arlington Cemetery and watched the changing of the guard. 4 WMS students presented the wreath at the wreath-laying ceremony as well. That about wrapped up Day 1 of the trip.
On Day 2 the 8th grade visited some of the popular memorials that Washington D.C. is known for. After a trip to the Smithsonian, they went to Medieval Times, a popular medieval-themed restaurant where you can watch knights joust while you eat.
On Day 3, it was time to begin to head home. But, not before dropping by Gettysburg on the way back.
No doubt the 8th grade is sad that the trip is over, but all of this year’s 7th graders have something to look forward to for next year. See? School can be fun!
We also decided to see what some of the 8th graders enjoyed the most on their trip to Washington. Check out some of their responses:

|
Liam: Laying the wreath at Arlington National Cemetery.
|
Shelby: Medieval Times.

Ms. Halicki: The Holocaust museum is always a moving experience using the powerful pictures and videos to understand more. Also, eating Mrs. Smith’s girl scout cookies.

Girl Scout Cookies!
By: Staff Writer Mya
We all hear that little knock at the door around February, and when you open it they ask you “If you’d like to order girl scouts cookies”. You suddenly feel this little happiness inside and order every box on the list from, cool thin mints to the peanut butter filled tagalongs. But how did they start? Girl scout cookies can date back all the way to 1917. The first big debut of the cookies was in 1922 in the American Girl doll magazine. Cookies back then were approximated to be sold for 25 to 30 cents a dozen. In 1933 when the Girl Scouts of Greater Philadelphia sold them out of the city’s gas and electric company windows for 23 cents for a box of 44 or $1.24 for 6 boxes! By 1951 the girl scouts started selling in a variety of 3 boxes sandwich, shortbread, and chocolate mints (now thin mints)! But now in 2018 you can choose from 12 different cookies priced at $4.00-$5.00 a box. They have come a long way from the start, but are still very delicious. |
Kindness Box
By: Staff Writer Mya
What inspired you to do this? They started of doing positive sticky notes to bring happiness, they started the boxes to make the people who wrote it to feel happy and the people to receive it to feel happy. Do you guys have some sort of signature trademark to show this is your work? PPL positive people tm Do you plan on expanding your guys idea on the kindness box? They hope to, and are in the process to expand it out of Mrs. Schrubb’s room. Have you done things like this in the past? They have always been nice secretly like a wave, a smile, or a hello. What is your reason for keeping it a secret? They claim, “it’s just fun that way.” It keeps people on their toes, and keeps people guessing. What’s the harm of a mystery? How does the box work? You can write a happy note, or take one out when your down. They have a box for each of Mrs. Schrubb’s classes. |
HIdden Talents
By: Staff Writers Emily and Sophia
Some students at WMS have special talents that no one has ever seen before. Did you know that Garrett can sing really high? Or did you know that Gabi can play the ukulele and can act? These were only a couple brave people, but everyone should be able to show their hidden talents. Don’t be afraid to express yourself to the world!
